I know you’re just DESPERATE to hear about what I’ve been up to for the last few weeks coming into the start of August. Well, the wait is over my friends.
Re-discovered my love of reading
I’ve been delving DEEP into reading, and it’s thanks to the book series of the moment, A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J Maas. I literally can’t stop reading! About to start book 4 out of 5 (and these are not short books!) and I’m ready to delve back into the world of faeries, High Fae, Lord’s of Spring, Summer, Dawn, Night and Day Court’s and more. Another great read I’ve fallen into an obsession with is The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. If you’re a lover of thrillers, I couldn’t put this one down either. So many twists!
Started re-watching Desperate Housewives
Oh, yeah. The iconic show is on Disney+ and I’ve been using my parents AKA my temporary flatmates account to go back into nostalgia town and watch the gossip unfold on Wisteria Lane from Season 1. Absolutely no regrets there. Especially when for the most part it’s been miserable and grey outside.
Went slightly HAM on online courses and up-skilling
I recently finished the Girls in Marketing Growth Programme as a cheeky free refresher for me to brush up on email marketing, copywriting and more. I would highly recommend this course and checking out their resource hub of free marketing trainings.
At the same time, I’ve decided to invest in a 3-month mentorship course and programme with Lucy Vincent, called Lucky Girl Social (it took all my strength to pay for it but so far it’s definitely been worth it).
Lastly, I have officially finished my Breathwork certification so I can now teach anyone and everyone! Speaking of, I’ve even created a free breathwork for abundance audio that you can download HERE.
Broke down for the first time!
I can’t quite believe I’d got to age 31 without breaking down, but there’s a first-time for everything. Fortunately, the timing of my first breakdown was before I was actually on the road (in my mums car, no less). I can’t say for certain that if I’d been on a motorway that I’d have been able to use the green/yellow triangle appropriately…Thankfully, being freelance meant no missed meetings, and just a couple of hours begging the guy from RAC to drop me home. He gave in after about 30 minutes.
Was gifted an AMAZING backpack from D-Robe (I’m truly obsessed)
I’ve been working with a company for The C Word Mag called D-Robe, and I have to say, I really do LOVE their backpacks. They sent me the Roll Top Large in Admiral Navy and it’s genuinely my new best friend. Why? When I say it fits just about everything in it… I mean it. Plus it’s comfy on your back, and looks very ‘Scandi-chic’ - what more could you want?
Wrote an article for Ele Tom
This one has been a long time coming. I’m lucky enough to know the founder of online magazine, Ele Tom and have wanted to write for them since they launched last year. I’d been drafting an article about 5 female-founded brands breaking down taboos for women for a few months, and as luck would have it, it was exactly the kind of thing that the Ele Tom editorial team were after!
Kept up with my weekly Sunday ‘cacao ceremony’ routine
I’ve got into this as a weekly routine since coming back from my travels (shoutout to my good friend Aster who introduced me to them), and honestly, it may be my favourite part of the week. All you do, is take a small cube of ceremonial raw cacao (you can buy this on Amazon or online, I get mine from SelvaBio but much better if you can get it directly from local people if you’re travelling) and melt it on the hob with some water. I like to add a little sprinkle of cinnamon and sometimes if I’m feeling bold, I’ll mash up a cardamon pod and add that too. Stir until melted and don’t let the water boil. As you stir, try and think of what you want to achieve from this mini cacao ceremony - this could be something like your intention for the next week. I then sit, light some candles, get out my wisdom cards and journal and put on some calming music. I’ll draw my cards and ask the universe to show me what I need to prioritise for the next 7 days, sip my cacao and then use the cards that fall as a starting point for my journalling. All sounds quite hippy dippy and spiritual, but trust me. Nothing sets up my week better. I leave the cards out somewhere I can see them throughout the week so I can remind myself of my intentions and priorities, then start it all again the following Sunday.
Went surfing in Wales
For those that don’t know, I’ve been crashing at my parents house outside Bristol for the last few months since I got back from travelling. It’s been great, but there reached a point where I needed some space (I’m sure they did too!), and I ended up exploring a place called Porthcawl in Wales. A small beach-side town, Porthcawl is about a 1.5 hour drive from Bristol, between Cardiff and Swansea, and although the waves were average, just being in the water, catching waves and having a few blissful hours in nature was incredible. It was all the beauty and wonder of Cornwall’s finest beaches, without the business and overload of people. In a word, DREAMY.
I really wish I’d taken a picture of the beach whilst I was there for you, but alas, I did not, so you’ll have to use your imaginations.
Attended an amazing sound healing and yoga class
Hosted by CLIQ for female-founders, this evening treat was just that. The perfect way to ease calmly into the weekend whilst I was up visiting friends in London. Founder of CLIQ, Nicola Gunby had invited a whole class full of community leaders from the CLIQ app and community platform, so it was part yoga/sound class and part networking event. A combination I didn’t know I needed in my life on that particular Friday evening, or any evening come to that. If you or friends of yours are looking for a community-driven app that facilities events all over the country - this is the app for you.
Started my official working newsletter
It’s taken me a minute, but my official ‘working’ newsletter is HERE. Combining my knowledge in the marketing strategy space and my new obsession with breathwork, I’m hoping this newsletter will provide all the juicy nuggets my clients, my future clients and even you dear reader are looking for in your life.
Have been chosen to be an ambassador for London Nootropics!
Never thought I’d be saying that, as I’m definitely not an influencer - not sure that’s the life for me. BUT I am a huge fan of London Nootropics and their adaptogenic coffee range, so much so that when I send them a long email telling them how much I enjoyed their products after reviewing them for The C Word, they made me my own bespoke discount code! Use code: emilyambassador at checkout for a cheeky 25% off (you’re welcome).
